Registration deadline extended for PM’s Laptop Scheme 2025

The deadline for registration under the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme has been extended from May 20 to June 1, 2025, giving more students the opportunity to benefit from the initiative aimed at enhancing digital literacy.

A spokesperson from the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme confirmed that the scheme, which is a flagship initiative of the government, has received an overwhelming response from students across the country. The extension allows those who missed the initial deadline to now apply and potentially receive a laptop to support their academic and research pursuits.

The scheme targets 100,000 talented students enrolled in PhD, MS/MPhil, Bachelor’s, and Master’s programs at recognized public sector universities. Applicants must meet specific academic criteria, including a minimum CGPA of 2.80 or at least 60% marks. First-year students need to submit their Higher Secondary School marks, while MS/PhD students must provide results of their previous degrees during the first semester.

Eligibility is limited to currently enrolled students; graduates are not eligible, even if they applied while still enrolled. Laptops will be awarded based on merit, following a transparent selection process.

A quota system is also in place, with 18% of laptops reserved for students from Balochistan and 5% for distance learning students—split equally between Virtual University and Allama Iqbal Open University.

Students can apply through the Prime Minister’s Digital Youth Hub app or via the official website www.pmyp.gov.pk, which is currently live. Once applications are submitted, a temporary merit list will be published, and a 15-day window will be available for raising objections or complaints. A final merit list will follow after all issues are resolved.

The government views the Laptop Scheme not just as a distribution project but as a strategic investment in the country’s future. It aims to bridge the digital divide, promote innovation, and equip students with the skills needed to thrive in the global economy. The initiative emphasizes transparency, efficiency, and merit-based selection, and is being closely monitored to ensure fair implementation.

As the scheme gains momentum, it is expected to have a lasting impact on Pakistan’s educational landscape by empowering students and enabling them to contribute effectively to national development.
